The Argentinian government authorized the emergency use of the Chinese-made CanSino vaccine last week, as confirmed by Health Minister Carla Vizzotti over the weekend.

According to health officials, the deal involves 5.4 million doses, set to arrive during June and July. The announcement comes as Argentina broke its record for vaccines administered per day: giving out more than 376,000 jabs on Saturday.

The pace of vaccination is increasing, but with just 7.39 percent of the population fully immunized, Argentina is still lagging behind neighbors Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay.
