Facing a deadly third wave of Covid-19 infections, Bolivia surpassed a total of 15,000 deaths on June 6, which led authorities to strengthen social isolation rules in five of the country’s regions.

According to the Health Ministry, Bolivia recorded 1,428 new infections in June, bringing the total tally up to 387,162 cases.

In the hardest-hit areas of La Paz, Cochabamba, and the eastern region of Santa Cruz, quarantines are in place. In Cochabamba, there are reports of oxygen shortages and relatives queuing up to get medicines and hospital beds for Covid-19 patients.
