Brazil’s National Finance Policy Council allowed seven more states to exempt inputs used in hospitals to intubate Covid-19 patients from state goods and services tax ICMS. The decision aims at avoiding input shortages — and 23 of 27 states are now permitted to lower these taxes.

With Covid-19 patients getting progressively younger as vaccination coverage among senior citizens improves, hospitalizations are lasting longer — thus increasing hospitals’ demand for materials. Last week, three states recorded waning stocks of such drugs and inputs.
