‘Vaccine gap’ reaches 30 million in Brazil

As Brazil’s vaccination campaign remains riddled with delays and unkept promises, only around 10.6 percent of the national population is fully vaccinated. However, data shows that figures could be much higher if all available doses are used. 

According to data from the Brazilian Health Ministry, there is a 30-million dose ‘gap’ between vaccines already distributed (over 96 million) and those currently administered around the country (67 million). 

Experts say the disparity is down to data-related issues, time of distribution, and absences at vaccination centers — with people fearing potential side-effects, or senior citizens being unable to keep appointments to receive second doses.
