After enduring its worst period of the pandemic, Uruguay has managed to speed up vaccination rates and has now fully immunized over 27 percent of its population. Now, President Luis Lacalle Pou is already planning to launch a Covid passport scheme to allow citizens access to public events after vaccination.

“It must be made clear that this is not restrictive, and those who haven’t been vaccinated will not necessarily be denied entry,” he explained, reinforcing that it is a pilot project and negative coronavirus tests will be required in all circumstances.
