Carlos Murillo, Pfizer’s Latin America president, told the Senate’s Covid hearings committee that Rio de Janeiro City Councilor Carlos Bolsonaro — the president’s second-eldest son — took part in a meeting between government officials and Pfizer representatives to discuss vaccine purchases.
The encounter took place at the presidential palace.
Carlos Bolsonaro is not an official member of the federal administration, and Mr. Murillo claims he was involved in talks at the behest of President Jair Bolsonaro’s then-press secretary, Fabio Wajngarten — who mediated negotiations in November 2020. Filipe Martins, one of the president’s top foreign affairs advisors, was also present.
During his deposition to the Covid inquiry yesterday, Mr. Wajngarten made no mention of Carlos Bolsonaro’s involvement in Pfizer negotiations.
