The state government of São Paulo has moved forward with its reopening plan by lifting some restrictions on non-essential businesses. From May 8 onwards, shops and restaurants may open from 6 am to 9 pm. A night-time curfew was also pushed back to 9 pm instead of 8 pm.
Under the new rules, commercial establishments can also operate at 30-percent capacity, instead of 25 percent. The government still advises office workers to continue working from home.
In a Friday press briefing, authorities in São Paulo also announced that vaccine rollouts for patients with pre-existing conditions or special needs aged 50 to 54 will begin on May 14. Per government calculations, the group comprises 850,000 people.
