After a net job creation of almost 400,000 in February, Brazil’s employment resurgence hit a snag last month, according to the General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (Caged).

The country recorded over 1.6 million formal hires in March, compared to 1.4 million layoffs, resulting in a net gain of 184,140 positions.

Employment is just the first of a series of economic indicators set to suffer in March, after a promising start to 2021. Amid a surge in coronavirus cases, several states and municipalities were forced to reintroduce tight restrictions on commerce in March and April, causing economic havoc.
