Brazilian health regulator Anvisa will send a team to Russia to inspect the Sputnik V vaccine’s production lines. The move comes after President Jair Bolsonaro changed this tune on the Russian vaccine and began pressuring Anvisa to give it a go.
Until recently, Mr. Bolsonaro said he would not purchase any vaccines not approved by regulators. That stance began changing on Tuesday, after he spoke on the telephone with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Anvisa Chairman Antônio Barra Torres took part in the call. Afterward, the agency promised that it would be “more proactive” in the path toward approving Sputnik V. Brasília correspondent Renato Alves explained the U-turn in detail.
