While Mexico’s 8.5-percent GDP plunge in 2020 is certainly no reason for celebration, the country took heart in economic results from the final quarter of last year. The country’s 3.3 percent growth in Q4 outstripped official forecasts, suggesting that Mexico is recovering at a faster pace than expected.

Latin America’s second-largest economy suffered severe disruptions during the pandemic, and the Mexican government has held back from launching stimulus measures seen in Brazil and developed Western countries. This investment drought could hamper further growth, say experts.
