During our lifetime, climate change will reshape cities, economies, coastlines, and entire global regions. In some countries, the impact will be impossible to avoid. A 2019 Nature study forecasts that areas currently home to 1.4 million Brazilians will begin suffering from constant flooding by 2050, while areas occupied by another 1 million people could be permanently submerged as ocean levels continue to rise.
Since 2006, sea levels have risen at a rate of 3.6 millimeters a year. At this pace, seas will be over 1 meter higher by the end of the century.
