Chile is now the country with the world’s fastest coronavirus vaccination rate, according to Our World in Data. The country has vaccinated 1.08 out of every 100 inhabitants, above Israel’s rate of 1.03. So far, over 4.2 million Chileans have received Covid-19 immunization.

However, the efficient vaccination campaign in Chile was not enough to offset a spike in cases, with 28,317 active coronavirus patients in the country. On Wednesday, the lower house extended Chile’s state of calamity until June 30, which will allow the government to keep social distancing in place, as long as it delivers updates every 45 days. The Senate will have the final say on the matter.
