Argentina authorized the emergency use of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by Chinese firm Sinopharm, expecting to receive 1 million doses in the next few days. It is the fourth different vaccine to be approved by Argentinian health regulators.

The country kicked off its vaccination program on December 24 using 1.2 million doses of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine, before approving the emergency use of the Pfizer immunizer — a shipment of which is expected to arrive in March. Argentina is also expecting a delivery of AstraZeneca vaccines, purchased in a joint deal with Mexico.

As of today, around 400,000 people in Argentina have received their first coronavirus vaccine shot. The approval of the Sinopharm immunizer came just days after new Health Minister Carla Vizotti was sworn in. Ms. Vizotti took the role after her predecessor stood down amid a vaccine line-cutting scandal.
