Governor João Doria of São Paulo said his administration fulfilled its goal to raise BRL 160 million (USD 29.8 million) from private companies to build a new factory to produce Covid-19 vaccines from 2022 onward.

Now, Mr. Doria will launch a new fundraising campaign to raise an extra BRL 20 million by March to purchase equipment for the new factory.

According to the governor, construction of the 11,000-square-meter facility could be completed by September, with production beginning in December. If everything goes according to plan, the state’s biological institute will be able to supply an additional 100 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines every year.
