President Jair Bolsonaro will be forced to wear a mask in public, or pay a BRL 2,000 daily fine, according to the decision of a trial court in the Federal District. The order also forces all federal civil servants to wear masks, or the government will face penalties of BRL 20,000 a day.

President Bolsonaro has violated the Federal District rule of mandatory mask use on several occasions, including during anti-democratic demonstrations in his favor. Previously, former Education Minister Abraham Weintraub had been fined for taking part in public demonstrations without using a mask.
