Mato Grosso Governor Mauro Mendes became the eighth Brazilian governor to test positive for Covid-19. In a Facebook post, Mr. Mendes indicated that he will be working remotely for the next few weeks, but that so far he is asymptomatic.

With 2,848 cases and 76 deaths, Mato Grosso has one of the lowest Covid-19 rates in the country. The governor, however, took the opportunity to encourage his citizens to “adopt hygiene and social isolation measures.”

The result came less than a week after his Espírito Santo counterpart, Governor Renato Casagrande, tested positive for Covid-19. Wilson Witzel (Rio de Janeiro), Paulo Câmara (Pernambuco), Antonio Denarium (Roraima), Camilo Santana (Ceará), Helder Barbalho (Pará), and Renan Filho (Alagoas) have also been infected.
