Health Ministry receives BRL 5.5 billion to fight the Covid-19 pandemic

The Health Ministry received BRL 5.5 billion from the federal government to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. BRL 4.8 billion will be divided between state and cities, and another BRL 700 billion will be used to fund research activities of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation.

The money was transferred from other projects, such as the House of Representatives’ Technology Center (BRL 3.5 million) and remodeling of politicians’ work apartments (BRL 21 million).In its last update on Brazil’s Covid-19 figures, the Health Ministry recorded 1,179 new deaths and a total of 271,628 infections. This was the first time that the Brazilian death toll topped the 1,000 mark in a single day since the beginning of the pandemic.
