UPDATE: Daily deaths top 1,000 mark for the first time

According to Brazil’s Health Ministry’s latest coronavirus update, the country recorded 17,408 new infections (a new daily record) and 1,179 new deaths. It was the first time that new deaths reached four digits. The total numbers are:

  • 271,628 cases;
  • 17,971 deaths.
