Retail sales in the city of São Paulo fell 62.8 percent in April compared to one year ago. According to retailers’ associations, installment purchases dropped 39.9 percent and cash sales fell 63.7 percent from March 2020.
A survey by the National Confederation of Commerce showed that between March 15 and April 18, eight out of ten establishments were closed and the sector amounted losses of BRL 86.4 billion. São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Rio Grande do Sul were the worst-affected states.
