Next Saturday, government-owned bank Caixa is scheduled to open between 1,200 and 1,400 branches throughout Brazil, for the payment of the three-month Covid-19 emergency salary. Although nearly one million Brazilians have opted for mobile transactions, many still rely on in-person payments. This Sunday, only 902 Caixa branches were open in the country.

Last week, El País reported that, with nearly 13 million Brazilians unable to receive the payment, many people were potentially exposing themselves to the novel coronavirus by lining up at Caixa branches.
