The latest update by the Brazilian Health Ministry shows that 321 new deaths were reported in the country over the weekend. With that, the death toll in Brazil has jumped to 2,462, more than doubling in a week. The number of confirmed cases is now at 38,654. São Paulo continues to be the state with the highest numbers: 14,267 cases and 1,015 deaths — becoming the first state to reach 1,000 deaths. Rio de Janeiro follows, with a reported 4,765 cases and 402 victims.

Despite having fewer confirmed cases, the situation in the northeastern state of Paraíba is a concern, with a death rate of 12.7 percent.
