With 341 deaths reported as of Friday, the state of Rio de Janeiro has seen an increase of 130 percent in the number of fatal victims since last week. Last Friday, the state counted 147 deaths. That brought the coronavirus lethality rate in Rio to 7.8 percent — more than one percentage point above the national average of 6.4 percent. The state concentrates 16 percent of the deaths and 13 percent of the confirmed cases in the country.
