The number of people affected by salary cuts of reduced working hours topped 1.7 million on April 15. Two days before, the number was around 1 million. The Economy Ministry said these workers will be compensated by the government, receiving a part of their full share of unemployment insurance benefits, plus emergency aid of BRL 600 for intermittent workers. The overall cost for the government is expected to reach BRL 51.2 billion.
