São Paulo issues 16,800 quarantine-related fines

The state of São Paulo officially entered quarantine on March 24. Non-essential commerce is closed, and restaurants can only operate for delivery and takeout. At the time, the military police created a new crime code for quarantine violations, of which there have been 16,779 instances so far, according to official data. Of this total, 15,500 fines were related to businesses operating without authorization, 8,700 of which were in the state capital.
