Mandetta: Government to build field hospital in Amazonas

Health Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta announced this morning that the federal government will build a second field hospital, this time in Amazonas. The state currently has the fourth-highest number of confirmed cases — and Manaus Mayor Arthur Virgílio Neto says the local healthcare system has already collapsed.

The first federal government’s field hospital is under construction in Goiás, and should be concluded within the next few weeks. The city of Águas Lindas de Goiás was chosen due to its proximity to Brasilia, as Mr. Mandetta said it would help with the monitoring of what the government calls its “pilot” field hospital.
