One week after suspending Copa Libertadores—South America’s answer to the Champions League—the continent’s football confederation Conmebol has moved to suspend the 2020 Copa America amid coronavirus fears, postponing the tournament to 2021.

As we reported in our March 16 Brazil Sports newsletter, major domestic tournaments in Brazil have also been suspended—games took place behind closed doors over the weekend, despite protests from numerous teams.

Moreover, Flamengo 65-year-old manager Jorge Jesus tested positive for the novel coronavirus. A second test came back inconclusive, and he is awaiting a third.
