The calm that comes after the storm

Regardless of political leanings, one thing all Brazilians can agree on is that the country’s politics have been more than exhausting over the last four years. As a result, even non-radical conservative groups felt that Jair Bolsonaro’s aggressive and chaotic way of running the country had to stop.

The Bolsonaro term swept over the country like a hurricane. Needless to say, after experiencing such a long period of extreme weather, many Brazilians were keen to go back to a calmer, blue sky.

But people didn’t expect that to become literal.

After a month of unpredictable and largely inclement weather in Brasília, Brazil’s capital, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s inauguration on January 1 was set to be rained off. But, contradicting the forecasts, those in attendance were treated to a sunny, cloudless sky, signaling the beginning of what many hope will be a “sunnier” time in Brazil.

As for the surprise weather on January 1, there are many theories, some of them tongue-in-cheek. Some suggested Lula ‘brought’ the sun himself, while others blame the weather forecasters themselves. And there is also the hypothesis that the blue sky was the work of an esoteric foundation known for rituals to repel gray clouds on important days.

We can’t confirm what really happened. But something happened.
